NaPoWriMo Day 18

Removing Love’s Mask

“Please stay, I love you”
Tossing rose blossom before your eyes,
Filling your stomach with fluttering flies,
Echoing whispered tunes in your ears,
And causing your skin to absorb all the tears.
Pounding your heart at a marathon rate,
Rattling your joints, wavering your gait.
Drying your mouth, clouding your brain.
Tickling your nerves, interrupting the pain.
Place a finger over the verbal attack
And tell them “I don’t love you back”.
Don’t give love power to enshroud the blue.
Lie to remove love’s mask,
Starve the cycle, and relieve you.

In response to the eighteenth “poemcrazy” prompt from NaPoWriMo.net

I chose the chapter title: “Lying to tell the truth” from Susan G. Wooldridge’s “Poemcrazy: Freeing Your Life with Words” as inspiration.

Remind Shi Rensa Haiku

A single moment.
One we will never relive.
When I fell for you.

When I fell for you,
Everything was simple.
Remind me to love.

Remind me to love.
Help me recall memories,
Forgotten feelings.

Forgotten feelings.
My eyes still drawn to your light.
Remind me to trust.

Honest Love Sonnet

I gaze upon the stranger opposite,
I’m wondering if he has noticed me,
I smooth my hair, and change the way I sit.
I’m coy, so shy, uncomfortable… Is he?

Why must I torture myself in this way?
I just want love to ambush me, and soon.
No time to think, no fuss, with no delay.
He doesn’t even have to make me swoon.

My friend says that I am more than enough.
He makes me smile, and helps me to get by.
Just why do I find seeking love so tough?
But then I see a glimmer in his eye.

When friendship blossoms into something more,
That’s when love is honest, real and pure.

NaPoWriMo Day 13

Non-Apology for Brother

To my dearest brother,
You seem to have misplaced your mate,
With your eyes glued to the screen,
He was free to take my bait.
Don’t worry, dear brother,
We don’t think it’s that bad.
I simply won’t apologise,
I’ll take good care of the lad,
Don’t blame me, dear brother,
He’s simply meant to be my mister.
Your friendship will defeat this.
Love from your naughty sister!

NaPoWriMo Day 12

Wait for You Triolet

I shall stand here and wait.
For you, the train will come soon.
I hope it won’t be late.
I shall stand here and wait,
For the arrival of my soul mate.
I have counted every moon.
I shall stand here and wait
For you. The train will come soon.

Worth Waiting For

We are parched of hope.
Two tulips in spring.
Lost in a field of poppies,
So wild, and unforgiving.

I falter, I wither,
In emotional turmoil.
I pine for your company,
Though anchored to the soil.

Where’s my refuge, my nursery?
I’m a solitary flower,
Come and quench my thirst,
With all the love I can devour.

I seek hope by the water,
Clear as a looking glass,
It reflects the damage of our parting.
When will this menace pass?

Oh, won’t you come and find me?
My strength, you can restore.
Let your touch console me.
You are still worth waiting for.

Wand’ring Eye Décima

You took a second glance. I could
Forgive you for a wand’ring eye.
As long as you do not deny,
And just assume I’ve understood,
Given a choice, I know you would
Allow that longing, leering stare
To ricochet back to me where
It will be reciprocated.
Besides, I’ve often debated
To gaze, myself. It’s only fair.

Left Unsaid

There is no need to sever the atmosphere,
Which lingers like smog, between you.

Instead, swallow the bitter taste of fury,
Or let it lie stagnant in your heart, festering.

It will only grow tough, unshakable layers,
As it will not disintegrate.

Is anything better left unsaid?
Why don’t you put these fumes to bed?

Long Distance Sonnet

Remember when we sat beneath the stars?
Gazing as the waves approached the shore,
I nestled in your arms. The night was ours.
Felt safer than I ever had before.

You turned to me and said you liked the way
It felt to have me in your grasp again.
You held me tighter still, and said someday,
To see you, I won’t have to catch a train.

Though distance holds no power over us,
Why does it hurt so much to be apart?
Then time refused to pause, or to discuss,
The desperate prayers within my aching heart.

My mind began to wander to a place,
Where every day I’m blessed to see your face.
