Summer Sijo

Water droplets meet grease on heat, so spit and hiss with rage.
Abruptly, sounds of summer reunite while wintry memories fade.
Yet chargrilled wings and smokey thighs taste better in the shade.

Life’s Pearls Décima

You miss so much when you are rushed.
A white dove’s feather softly falls,
As lions flex their golden paws.
A ripened berry’s body blushed,
Before it’s bursting flesh was crushed.
A stem will grow with twists and swirls,
Before a single petal curls.
Perfect flakes of snow melt so fast,
In less time than eclipses last.
Wander free but don’t miss life’s pearls.

A Magic Flight

Add fuel to the golden fire,
To make us go higher.
We took flight with no wings,
Only colourful rings,
Clutching a woven basket.
It took a while to grasp it,
But once we were suspended,
It could be comprehended,
That there is more to life,
Than war and strife.
Our view is panoramic.
There is such a thing as magic.
Though with each refreshing sigh,
We draw closer to ravens in the sky.
